Hello, Dolly! is a 1964 musical with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955. The musical follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, New York, to find a match for the miserly "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder.
Our production of Hello, Dolly! Was regrettably fated not to be, and never made it to an audience. Having built the set on 16th March, and run our technical and dress rehearsals, the theatre was officially closed by the directors of Eden Court Theatre on 17th March 2020 - the evening before opening night. The curtain closed on the Empire that very night due to the worsening Covid-19 crisis and Eden Court has not hosted a theatre production since.
Heartbroken to have missed our chance to perform, we at IMT are looking forward to the next time we can tread the boards again!
